Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us.
Ephesians 3:20
Sometimes in order to break through to the next level of your life you have to be willing to take a risk. I am not talking about reckless or cavalier actions. I am talking about putting your faith to work and believing in yourself and your God to get out of the safe zone of life and pursue what you really want.
This can be a challenge even for people of faith. I have been in situations in my life that I was unhappy. Not that happiness or convenience is the driving thing for decisions. However, I knew what I was doing, experiencing, and even allowing was not working for me. I wasn’t experiencing God’s best. It wasn’t that I didn’t believe God for my life to get any better, but I failed to realize that some of that responsibility for change was on my part. I didn’t want to make a mistake, or get out of the will of God. That equated being paralyzed by good intentions.
One of the lies that keeps us tied to a mediocre life is that if we step out that we will shipwreck our lives. Jude 1:24 tells us that He keeps us from falling. That says to me that when my motives are to honor God with my life I can step out in the direction that I believe is right. He will not allow me to destroy my life. If I am moving in the wrong direction God will step in. He is a faithful course corrector.
Taking Risks with God
Taking risks with God is one of the ways that we can grow exponentially. I am not a natural risk taker. I like peace in my life and playing it safe is my default personality setting. I am not usually trying to see how much I can get away with, or what rules I can break. I enjoy stability. This however, is also a recipe for stagnation. It is the antitheses of growth. In God’s mercy, He will often disrupt this and place an overwhelming challenge in my life. Something that causes me to feel unprepared, unqualified, and often fearful all at once. When God introduces the risk to us, He also knows what reward is on the other side.
Sometimes those rewards are spiritual, but other times they are real tangible blessings that move our lives forward. God knows that we probably would never go after those things, or even consider ourselves worthy to receive them. When He introduces the risk, I have found that He will play it on repeat in my heart waiting for me to step out. When I muster the faith and obedience to follow His prompting I can say that my rewards fall into that Ephesians 3:20 category…SO MUCH MORE THAN I COULD ASK OR THINK!!!
